The Foundation degree (Business) has been developed in conjunction with leading Public Sector organisations to enable both new and existing staff to enhance their skills not only at the theoretical level but to allow them to implement such skills within the workplace.

Flexible courses
The Foundation degree conforms to Solent's commitment to produce work based courses that can be delivered at a time and place to suit the student's lifestyle.
Delivery may be at Solent, in the workplace, or online. The choice is subject to reasonable cohort sizes. Courses can start at any time of the year and students can determine the pace of their learning to reflect workplace and lifestyle pressures.

The course has been designed so that all students will undertake core areas of study which will help them acquire a set of common business and study skills.
Course content for Year 1
Core areas of study:
- Personal Development Planning (Year 1) or Personal Development for HE
- Academic Research and Writing
- Communication Skills
- Business Information Reporting
- Understanding Your Business
- Concepts of Management 1
- Understanding Finance.
One option unit from:
- Management Systems
- The Business Environment
- Marketing Principles

Course content for Year 2
In Year 2 you can select one of two possible routes through the level, the difference is determined by whether you undertake a single or extended work-based project.

- Work-based Project Preparation
- Work-based Project
- Concepts of Management 2
- Resource Management.
Two option units from:
- Capability of Innovation
- E-Marketing Management
- Risk Management

What next?
On completion of the Foundation degree you may progress onto a Top-up programme, which will enable you to obtain a full honours degree.
