What is tourism and hospitality business management?Tourism and hospitality business management covers a whole range of visitor and hospitality services, including • customer service • service development and design • front of house • food and beverage management • understanding markets and their complexity.

Managers within these industries need to understand key management functions, such as • marketing • human resources • operations management • finance • supply chain management.

This course

Tailor your learning to focus on either tourism or hospitality after gaining knowledge and insight across the two areas. You have the option to study abroad and take a placement abroad as part of your studies, and this helps to give you the international focus and experience you need for a career in this area.

This course enables you to develop the skills and knowledge you need to maximise your employability in the global tourism and hospitality service industries.

First year modules give you key insight into the tourism and hospitality industries and how they are evolving. You also study applied management modules to help you understand key business principles in tourism and hospitality business management.

You can choose to focus your studies from the second year by studying tourism or hospitality related optional modules.

Throughout the course, you develop skills to enhance your employability for when you graduate, as well as the personal and academic skills to help you study successfully while you are here.

You learn through lectures, seminars, workshops and practical projects in our first class facilities. These include fully-equipped professional kitchens to enable you to apply your learning in a realistic working environment. Fieldwork and site visits also play a key role in your studies. And we use visiting speakers from industry, to bring your learning to life, who are able to share their experiences and insight into the industry.

After your second year, you can take a one year paid work placement. Our dedicated placement team help you to find a company that’s right for you and support you through the application process. Past students have taken placements at • The Old Toad, Rochester, New York • Alton Towers • Fairmont Chateau, Whistler, Canada.

You must take a work placement abroad, to gain the international version of this award. You can also spend up to a full academic year studying abroad, in places such as Malta, Spain, or Denmark.
