Description
Pharmacology studies how drugs affect the functioning of the body. It encompasses drug structure and therapeutic effects, including the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying their activity.
Pharmacology draws on the knowledge of morphology and interactions in the major organ systems in the body. Pharmacologists are responsible for discovering hundreds of chemical substances used to treat diseases. There are still many human diseases such as cancer, malaria and cystic fibrosis, for which cures need to be found.
Rational drug design based on molecular biology, cell biology and genetics will play a crucial role in conquering such diseases.
