This course offers you the opportunity to critically review,
consolidate and extend key skills of leadership, management,
education, research, judgement and practice. It is designed to meet
the professional needs of registered nurses from all disciplines
working in a variety of different health care settings.
The course is innovative and interactive, emphasising application
of theory to the practice context to promote the development and
advancement of nursing practice. All students can personalise their
learning to their own situations. For example: mental health,
infection control, management, acute care, paediatrics and
community health. International students are particularly welcome
and offer a different perspective to the learning that occurs.
Specifically for nurses who are looking to build on their
experience and develop the higher level knowledge and skills
required for advanced practice, this course offers opportunities
for professional and personal development in the area of nursing
practice and matches the Knowledge Skills Framework
and the Advanced Practice Agenda.
EXIT AWARDS: MSc(180 credits) )/PgDip (120 credits)/ PgCert (60
credits)
Delivery: Mainly at QMU with somedistance learning modules and
some
work-based learning modules
Single Modules: Register as an associate student to study single
modules in areas of interest
Duration: Full-time: 1 year; Part-time: 2.5 - 7 years
Start date: September and January
Application deadline: The deadline for all overseas applicants who
require a visa to study in the UK should apply no later than the
30th June 2013.
Teaching, learning and assessment: Learning methods used
specifically encourage participative and independent learning.
Assessment methods include essays, a learning action plan, a
concept analysis, seminar presentations and a group report. A
web-based discussion board supports the course.
Teaching hours and attendance: Each module which you study
on-campus will require you to attend classes and carry out
independent work. Your attendance requirements at QMU will depend
on which module you are studying and whether you are studying full
or part-time.
Links with industry/professional bodies: This course does not gain
the student accreditation with the Nursing and Midwifery
Council.
