This course integrates theory and practice, with clinical
placements in each year. It will enable you to deliver high
standards of nursing care with confidence. You will experience
interactive learning and assessment, including practice in the
Clinical Simulation Suite.
In Year One the focus is on the lifespan and clinical placements
reflect this. You will study the essential elements of nursing
(professional issues, nursing knowledge, health promotion and
social sciences), skills for nursing practice (essential care and
communication) and applied science (chemistry, physiology and
pharmacology).
In Year Two, you will learn how to assess and care for ill adults.
Real client and patient experiences are used as the focus for group
learning. You will further develop your knowledge of applied
science. Clinical placements will be in the hospital setting.
Year Three modules will help you to learn about caring for patients
with acute and critical care needs, as well as rehabilitation and
long term conditions. You will learn more about the importance of
using evidence to support your management of care.
In Year Four, the focus is on clinical leadership and management.
Development of professional and academic interests are encouraged.
For example, opportunities exist for students to select an area of
clinical practise for the final placement. This may enhance your
future career. You will also complete a dissertation in the form of
a research proposal.
