The Programme
Humanities takes a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of
the relationship between human activity and the natural
environment. It contains elements of history, geography,
literature, politics and ethics. By studying humanities you will
develop useful skills that are highly valued by employers and
higher education alike, such as being able to analyse and evaluate
materials in many different contexts.

At AS Level you will study two units: Unit 1 - Human Society and
the Natural World; and Unit 2 - People, Community and Power.
At A2 Level you will study the following units: Unit 3 -
International and Global Controversies; and
Unit 4 - Interdisciplinary Skills Research Enquiry (individual
coursework).
The Programme Content
An exciting new subject which combines elements of history, geography, literature and ethics. It examines the relationship between human activity and the natural world. Students who study humanities A Level will gain a broad understanding of the the world we live in as well as excellent writing, analytical and evaluative skills needed for Higher Education. Petroc's Tiverton campus offers an intimate learning environment. It is a small campus offering a sixth form experience. In A Level Humanities class sizes are rarely larger than 12 meaning that you receive plenty of one to one attention, feedback on submitted work has a quick turn around and you receive a more individually tailored approach. According to the OSTED Report of 2012 ¿Teaching and learning are outstanding. Teachers use a variety of learning and practical activities to motivate and involve students. Five GCSEs at A*-C including English and one other humanity subject such as history, geography or ethics.

Progression
This is a course that provides students with the skills required at higher education level. It complements students wanting to study for a degree in English, history, law or any of the social sciences. For science students it demonstrates a breadth of knowledge and understanding and the acquisition of research skills.
