The Programme
In this course you will develop the skills you acquired at GCSE
level, focusing on improving your German in the key areas of
speaking, listening, reading and writing. You will extend your
knowledge about the life and culture of Germany and German speaking
countries.
The exams consist of two units each year, one testing your oral
skills, the other one the listening, reading and writing skills.
Different aspects from a variety of topics about Germany and German
speaking countries are studied.

The Programme Content
In this course you will develop the skills you acquired at GCSE level, focusing on improving your German in the key areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing. You will extend your knowledge about the life and culture of Germany and German speaking countries. Different aspects from a variety of topics about Germany and German speaking countries are studied and you can explore certain topics of your personal interest in depth. You will broaden not only your general knowledge but also the understanding of German, culture and people in the German speaking countries. The course will help you to communicate with confidence in discussions and debates as well as issues from the news. Different aspects from a variety of topics and how they affect life in the 21st century are discovered.
Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at grade C or above. We recommend a grade B in German.
Costs
You will be required to buy your German text book for each year and one accompanying grammar book at the beginning of the course for approximately £30*.

Progression
An A Level in German will give you many opportunities either for employment in various areas or for the option to study German at degree level at university. You can choose to study a single degree or in combination with another foreign language, English, law, business or media. There are many career opportunities for students who have a qualification in modern foreign languages in business, law, the civil service, the diplomatic corps and teaching.
