Course Description:

This three day instructor-led training course teaches developers how to use Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 to build fully featured line of business applications with Silverlight.

Rather than simply present a series of features, the course presents a business application that is to be written. Over the course of the 8 modules, key Silverlight 4.0 features will be presented that address the problem/task at hand.

In this way, the delegates will benefit greatly by seeing Silverlight features presented and used in an appropriate context.

On completion of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Describe the key new features of Silverlight 4
  • Create projects in Visual Studio 2010.
  • Use RIA Services Business Application Template to create a Line of Business (LOB) application project.

  • Describe how Model View View Model (MVVM) can be used to structure their application and take advantage of databinding and styling techniques.
  • Create a consistent look and feel to their application by using implicit styles.
  • Enhance client side functionality by incorporating webcam and clipboard support to their applications in addition to drag and drop capabilities.
  • Provide right click support to their applications.
  • Enhance their ListBox control using grouping, Fluid UI animations and word based trimming.
  • Add printing support to their Line of Business (LOB) applications.
  • Develop applications that may be run Out of Browser (OOB) for both online and offline use.
  • Manipulate window position and also provide Toast notifications.
  • Enable their applications for elevated trust in order that they may perform tasks that would otherwise be forbidden such as COM Interop.
