Learn the latest AIX 5L V5.3 performance analysis and tuning tools and options that take advantage of the new virtualization features. You'll learn which tools to use, when, and how they've been enhanced for the latest POWER5 and AIX 5L technology. These skills are invaluable to individuals responsible for the performance of the POWER5 processor-based system.
Students in this course learn advanced skills to measure, analyze, and tune AIX 5L subsystems for optimal performance on the IBM POWER5 processor-based system. This course focuses on the features that relate to the special monitoring, configuring, performance management, and tuning needs of AIX 5L logical partitions (LPARs). This course does not cover application monitoring and tuning.
Course Objectives
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Describe the effect of the new virtualization features on
performance and monitoring, such as: Simultaneous multi-threading,
Micro-Partitioning, and virtualization features
- Interpret the outputs of the new and enhanced AIX 5L V5.3
performance monitoring and tuning tools to view the impact of
simultaneous multi-threading, Micro-Partitioning, and
virtualization. The tools include: vmstat, iostat, sar, topas,
mpstat, lparstat, smtctl
- List various sources of information and support for AIX 5L
performance tools, system sizing, system tuning, and AIX 5L V5.3
enhancements and new features
- Automate dynamic logical partition operations with the Partition
Load Manager (PLM)
