This practical video making course is for anyone who wants to produce a short, promotional creative piece that they can upload and share. You might be a visual artist or musician who wants to experiment with moving images in your work. You might want to document an event for work to share with colleagues and customers. Whatever your motivation, this intensive beginners-level course will take you through the process so that you can become a competent video maker and editor.

Recording and editing moving images can be a means of communicating with a multitude of audiences, clients and peers, and video practice is forever evolving. Thus, being aware of current techniques and Final Cut Pro X software is essential if you are to produce amazing new work for the world to see. This is therefore a very practical course; it will allow you to produce a short piece to a very high standard that can in turn be used for promotional or portfolio purposes. There will be an element of theory at the start, after which you will undertake the planning and production stage where images will be captured and uploaded using standard software before commencing to the editing stage. The course will be demonstration led with some location work using video cameras. Some pre-planning or production thinking might be required outside of the set class hours, to ensure you meet your deadlines.

The ideal attendee is one who wishes to communicate through the moving image. You will need to be creative but need not have any knowledge of moving image software. If you have a project in mind then you will be particularly responsive to the course; projects will be self-initiated, achievable ideas, with support from your tutor.

Learners will leave the course with knowledge of editing software as well as an awareness of what is involved in a short video production.
