As part of our commitment to investing in research that shapes lives and society, we are awarding 12 fully-funded Vice-Chancellor’s PhD Scholarships for 2014.The School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences invites applications from well qualified candidates, who have or expect to graduate with good first degrees or Masters level qualifications, to undertake doctoral studies in a range of the School’s subject areas.

Vice-Chancellor's Scholarhsips
A number of projects, listed below, are being considered for the Vice-Chancellor's scholarship award 2014.
- Distribution and cryptobiotic potential of nematode worms in glacial environments: evidence from outlet glaciers of Öræfajökull in SE Iceland.
- Measurements of welfare state in cattle to improve quality of life in different commercial environments.
- Strategies to improve captive health, welfare and reintroduction success of the Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca).
- Management of carbon budgets for severely eroded upland blanket peat bogs – impacts of restoration.
- The geography of flavonoids: assessing indicators and management conditions for predicting polyphenol contents in wine production.
- Measuring Sustainable Intensification in Agriculture: An Action Research.
- Project Title: An investigation into factors affecting elephant welfare in UK zoos.

During your research you will be supported by a dedicated
