This course aims to take you through the design cycle – and create bridges between the various disciplines. You will be guided by professional designers and experienced teachers who will provide you with feedback on your strengths and identify areas for development.
Each week you will undertake a new task, and create work that has some joined-up thinking for the following week. This will help you to understand the tangible links between one specialist pathway and another. Classes will take the form of:
- practical tasks
- workshops
- demonstrations
- peer reviews
- discussions.
You will research the work of others, accessing YouTube clips, the internet and the University library. These research tasks will help inform and inspire design development.
It is not expected that you will be successful at every stage – but it is hoped that you will see and understand the connections. Above all, it is hoped that you will better understand each pathways' requirements, and ultimately help and inform you with regards to future choices and decisions.
Programme structureDates: 16 November - 14 December 2013 and continued 25 January - 22 February 2014.
Following an initial introduction, the first four weeks will be centred on finding a solution to a brief that is trend focused.
Weeks five to eight will see the brief become one that is problem focused.
At each stage in the process you will be shown and be asked to respond to connections between the various design disciplines. The projects will demonstrate the links between fashion, graphics, product design, packaging, textiles, photography and advertising.
Week nine will focus on professional presentation of work.
Week ten will culminate with a display of work produced. Friends and family will be invited to attend, and you will receive written feedback regarding your progress and advice about the way forward.
