The course combines design with technical skills and will include:
- an introduction to the multi-head machine and an understanding of how it works
- the consideration of fabric selection
- how to import images into E2
- how to work with different types of linear and fill stitches
- using lettering in your designs
- watching your own designs stitch out on the multi-head.
The course is ideal for those from a textiles, fashion, graphics, fine art or decorative arts background. It is suitable for design graduates who want to add to their portfolio or enthusiastic amateurs who wish to learn about digital embroidery. You should have a basic understanding of stitch, and it would be advantageous if you have done domestic machine embroidery before. However, it is not necessary to have any knowledge of the multi-head machine. You must be IT literate but you do not need to have any experience of using digital embroidery software.
This is a taught, practical course which will be based both in the embroidery workshop and Computer Aided Design suite. Content will be delivered by technical demonstration and computer based workshops. Small homework tasks will also be set, such as researching images to inspire your work. Threads and fabrics that are suitable for the multi-head machine will be provided.
By the end of the course you will have:
- an understanding of the capabilities (and limitations) of the multi-head embroidery machine
- the ability to digitise designs using Wilcom E2 Embroidery Studio
- the knowledge to select fabrics and backing fabrics that are suitable for use on the multi-head
- print outs of all your designs showing technical information
- creative embroidery samples that will enhance or begin a portfolio.
