This course is recognised by the Royal Society of Chemistry for professional CChem (Chartered Chemist) status. This means that if you obtain the MChem award with the appropriate degree classification, you can apply to become a Chartered Chemist once you have graduated.
Why choose this course?MChem courses are aimed at students who'd like to become professional career chemists or go on to study for a higher degree. You can choose a practical, employment-based route, or a more academic pathway, depending on your career ambitions.
This course covers core chemistry and chemical principles with a strong emphasis on analytical skills and employability. Working with other areas of science such as Biology and Physics helps you develop a deeper understanding of Chemistry and provides the flexibility to tailor your degree to suit your interests. A major part of the MChem is focused on a research project where you'll produce results of sufficient quality to be published in a refereed scientific journal.
You also have the option of a 12-month paid work placement in the third year, which gives you the award of MChem Chemistry with Professional Practice.
