Studying modules from across the School’s postgraduate provision allows you to develop specialism and expertise underpinned by leading research. You will work alongside existing masters courses within the School, and benefit from cross-disciplinary learning experiences delivered by specialists within respective subject areas.

The course includes an innovative Built Environment Project module which is directed through individual supervision, academic support and guidance.

Originating from an industry-linked research proposal, which can be design, technology or management-led, this module focuses your ability to combine research, critical analysis and application of knowledge.

Course structure

You can study:

  • full-time
  • part-time
  • on a module-by-module basis (CPD).

The course is structured on a credit accumulation basis and completion of each module is certificated, counting towards your CPD and contributing to a final award of MSc (180 credit points). Modules can be taken in any order, subject to timing of delivery and relevant prior learning.

An underpinning strength of this course is the ability to be responsive to emerging demands and developments across the built environment and its allied industries.

The modules are selected from our existing postgraduate courses, including:

  • MSc Construction Management
  • MSc Project Management (Construction)
  • MSc Quantity Surveying
  • MSc Structural Engineering with Management
  • MSc Structural Engineering with Materials
  • MSc Building Surveying
  • MSc Real Estate
  • MSc Planning and Development
  • MSc International Real Estate Investment and Finance
  • MA Interior Architecture and Design
  • MSc Architectural Technology and Design.

Some modules are also available from the following courses:

  • MArch Architecture (masters level modules only)
  • MSc Advanced Product Design Engineering
  • MSc / MA Smart Design.

  • Research Methods
  • Built Environment Project.

How will I learn?

All modules are taught, with the exception of the Built Environment Project module.

Teaching and learning methods include lectures, seminars, tutorials, critiques, case studies, workshops, site visits and field trips.

Extensive independent research and self directed study is also expected at this advanced level. Additional contribution from industry and professional organisations brings you into contact with current thinking and expertise.

How will I be assessed?

As the course is fundamentally about enhancing employability, assessed work is set within the context of requirements that have industry relevance. The majority of modules are assessed by integrated coursework submission.

Where modules are drawn from professionally accredited courses, assessment formats may be bound by Professional Body requirements.
