What qualifications or skills do I require to study this course?

You will need to undertake the following onscreen test and bring the results with you to the diagnostic session to demonstrate you have Level 2 Literacy (Communication) and Level 2 Numeracy skills (Application of Number). http://keyskills4u.excellencegateway.org.uk/tests/2007/CdDemo.html This is an in service qualification where candidates must already be engaged in teaching within post-compulsory (i.e. Further, Higher or Adult) education for at least 75 hours per year. You must hold a degree from a UK university Class 2:2 or above Learners are required to attend Study Days (further information will be given on the course.) All interested students must have a formal interview Two appropriate references required. Students must also have relevant subject qualifications.

What does the course involve?

To provide a core professional training in teaching for staff working in the area of post-compulsory education. To provide opportunities for staff additionally to pursue relevant areas of professional educational interest in greater depth through Professional Practice units. To equip staff to understand and work with professional, organisational and policy change in this area of education To provide an effective base for further personal and professional development by the encouragement of reflective practice Assessment: Provide evidence that you can meet all the assessment criteria for the outcomes in a negotiated project or portfolio of evidence. Practical demonstration of skills addressed in taught units will be assessed through Professional Practice.

What option will be open to me if I successfully complete the course? You will be qualified to deliver in the Full Teacher Role as defined by the Institute for Learning and gain Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status. Progression routes will be advised to all trainees before enrolling on the programme as routes are varied, depending on individual aims.
