Course Summary:
This course has been designed in co-operation with employers to provide you with the specialist skills and knowledge essential for successful employment in applied laboratory science in veterinary laboratories, pharmaceutical laboratories, biomedical diagnostics, and research and biotechnology laboratories.
Course Details:
This course is designed primarily for part time work-based students employed in approved training laboratories (not associated with the NHS). It is a four year course with students attending college one day per week for 32 weeks per year. The course begins in September. Instruction times begin at 9.00 am and may extend to 6.30 pm. The course is modular and students will complete six modules each year (two of these modules are work-based). In addition the project will normally be undertaken in the work place. You will have a work-based supervisor who will help to ensure that the academic study and the work based training are complementary.
This course may be available to students on a full-time route, where you attend college up to four days per week for three years. Instead of work-based modules you will take additional modules at Nescot to enhance your background knowledge and laboratory experience. In addition you will complete a reaserech project as part of your honours degree.
Assessment is by examination, coursework and a research project.

Career Progression:
In addition to careers in diagnostic laboratories, students completing this course commonly find careers in veterinary laboratories and the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries. You can also progress to an MSc or PhD in biomedical science or another biological discipline.
