This introductory level course (SCQF level 4) provides an ideal opportunity to develop your soft skills and interpersonal skills in a health and social care setting. It is a full time programme to help and support you make the transition from either unemployment or the school setting to a learning environment. It will provide sustained support and guidance which will be a crucial factor in the success of such a programme. As part of the course you will have opportunities to become involved in volunteering.

There is no placement for this course but please note that for all care courses involving work experience, an offer of a place is subject to a satisfactory check through Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) certificate.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?

This course is suitable for adult returners in a further education environment seeking to enhance their employability and vocational skills in both the health and the social care sectors. You will have access to real or simulated health sector/social care environments; there will be visiting industry speakers or visits to people working in these sectors.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Assessment is varied. There will be practical assessments, open and closed book extended writing, reports, short answer questions, oral questions and role play.

PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The emphasis of this course is to prepare you to work in the health or social care sectors while developing employability skills valued by all employers in any sector. You will have the opportunity to investigate a range of job roles and career opportunities as well as participate in a mock job interview. You will also develop a range of knowledge and skills required in this vocational area.

Students can progress to NC Child, Health and Social Care (Nursing route) SCQF level 5, NC Child, Health and Social Care ( Social Care Route) level 5 or Playwork and childcare (SCQF level 5).
