My wider world’ - you will study how the universe began and has changed since then. Surface processes, including how life has developed over time. Basic chemistry including the structure of atoms, compounds and mixtures.
Life on our planet’ - you will study how living organisms are classified and how they are adapted to survive in a wide range of environments. How natural selection works to allow organisms to adapt to different environments
My Family and Home
My family’ - you will study human physiology and biochemistry. How drugs can be used to diagnose and treat diseases. Genetic diseases, possible cures and treatments.
My home’ - you will study materials used to construct our homes. Different fuels used for heating and transport. The generation and distributions of electricity.
My property’ - you will study the costs of running appliances in the home and how much energy they use. The use of and the influence of electromagnetic waves in the home.
Making My World a Better Place
Improving health and well being’ - you will study the use of drugs, vaccines and ionising radiation in medicine.
Making and improving products’ - you will study electroplating, the development of new products and selective breeding/genetic engineering.
Improving our environment’ - you will study how environmental concerns are taken into account when developing new products. Saving energy and controlling pollution in the home.
Using Practical and Investigative Skills
In this unit you will plan an investigation, safely carry out the investigation, collecting data accurately and carefully. You will then present your findings and evaluate how valid your conclusions are.
Entry Requirements:
GCSE Science grade D.
Which courses go well with this?
This course can be combined with AS Level subjects or other Level 2 courses.
Progression:
Upon successful completion of the course you may progress onto the National Diploma in Applied Science, to a range of A Levels or into employment.
