The Level 3 Certificate in inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations has been developed in association with the National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC) and will satisfy the NICEIC's particular requirement that proposed Qualified Supervisors (PQSs) and operatives are conversant with the requirements of BS 7671 for inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations. Course description: the course is primarily aimed at electricians with previous experience of inspection and testing and a good working knowledge of BS7671:2008 17th Edition Wiring Regulations. It is strongly advised that all candidates have successfully completed City & Guilds 2382-10 or 20 first and are working within the industry along with experience of inspection and testing within both commercial and industrial premises. Candidates who do not have this experience/knowledge are advised to consider the new City & Guilds 2392-10 Level 2 Initial Verification Course first.

Assessment

Candidates must successfully complete:

  1. 2.5 hour written examination consisting of 26 questions closed book (2391-301).
  2. A 4 hour practical assessment on a one to one basis with the assessor (2391-302).

Materials Required:

All candidates will be provided with an extensive training materials written by the awarding bodies lead provider. The course is designed to verify that candidates are fully familiar with the content and application of Guidance Note 3 published by the IET. All candidates are advised to obtain a copy for reference throughout the course.

The Unite Guide to Inspection & Testing and BS7671:2008 (2011) are available from technical training solutions.

Entry Requirements: 17th Edition BS7671:2008 certification is advised, 2382-10 or 20 along with experience relating to electrical inspection & testing within both commercial and industrial sectors. Candidates who can't satisfy the above requirements are advised to undertake the level 2 initial verification inspection and test programme first - 2392-10.

Progression: The 2391 qualification is accepted by some register holding bodies as suitable criteria for competent persons schemes registration, for example Part P, NICEIC approved contractors. The qualification forms part of the Continuous Professional Development available to the electrical sector, allowing those working in the industry to develop their skills and keep up to date with requirements. The 2391-10 qualification may lead to progression onto the 2391-20 qualification (Level 3 Certificate in design, erection and verification of electrical installations).
