Raku firing - levels 2 & 3
A specialist weekend course. This course introduces the exciting process of Raku, which is a fast and dynamic firing technique. Introduction to various glazing techniques, alongside being involved with the firing and post-firing reduction processes.
Advanced preparation (making the clay body) is required for this course. Additional costs may be incurred for materials used during the course. On the Sunday the class starts at 10am and finishes at 5pm.
Learner & Entry Requirements:
At least one years adult education experience, plus basic skills in decorating and glaze-dipping techniques. Learners are already attending a Ceramics course.

The required number of biscuit-fired items to fill the kiln. General pottery tools including brushes. Strong shoes must be worn, and legs must be fully covered. KAE is unable to offer refunds for any materials, equipment or books if the course is subsequently closed.
Course Aim & Objective:
Develop your creativity with ceramics by using fire as a creative tool.
By the end of the course you should be able to load and unload small pots into a hot kiln, create post-fired reduction colours and carbonisation in your work, and realise the processes of creative potential.
Assessment:
Continuous observation of ceramic forms made in class.

This practical course in Raku-firing, for learners with little or no experience of making Raku pottery, covers the final glaze firing stage and post-fired reduction processes. Decorating and glazing techniques. Learners discover their own style by exploring the creative potential of the process through experimentation.
