The City & Guilds course follows a set syllabus covering the techniques required to achieve the certificate. There is no examination, but continual assessment for certification. Learners in the Workshop work on their own projects with instruction and guidance from the tutor.

Learner & Entry Requirements:
No experience or technical skills are required although basic knowledge of sewing will be helpful for those undertaking the City & Guilds certification.
General & First Session:
Not necessary to bring your own sewing machine. If you have pen, pencil, notebook and basic sewing equipment, please bring them but do not purchase them specifically for the course until after the first class. KAE is unable to offer refunds for any materials, equipment or books if the course is subsequently closed. At the first class, the tutor advises which fabrics to purchase for your projects, but fabric is supplied for samples.
Course Aim & Objective:
To gain a good grounding in using commercial patterns, selecting material and styles, and machining techniques to make your own clothes.
By the end of the City & Guilds course learners will have completed 2 mandatory units including a folder of sample techniques and 2 units from the following options in the craft pathway:- a blouse, shirt or simple jacket; tailored skirt; penelled skirt; fitted, inlined trousers.
Workshop learners complete their own projects with tutor guidance.
Assessment:
Homework will be set for those undertakng the City & Guilds course. Continuous assessment, Question & Answer sessions and completion of units for City & Guilds certification.
Course Syllabus:
Learners undertaking the 2-year City & Guilds course follow the set syllabus covering techniques required to gain the certificate. Samples and techniques include: darts, gathers, seams, zips, buttons and buttonholes, other fastenings, collars, cuffs, waistbands, facings, interfacings, pockets, hems, colour and style.
Those learners in the workshop will have an individual syllabus set at the first lesson.
