A gentle introduction to flower arranging.  Learn several styles of arrangement, suitable for home and special occasions.  You need to bring flowers and equipment for the second week.  An additional cost is incurred for flowers, per session, depending on individual choice.

No experience is necessary.

Course Aim & Objective: 

To introduce the basics of floristry and give you the confidence to arrange flowers for home and special occasions.  Identify appropriate flowers and foliage for different styles of arrangements; use suitable containers and equipment.

Assessment:  

Continuous observation, tutor- and peer-assessment, discussion, a set project at end of the course.

We will recognise and record your achievement through attainment of the following course goals:-

  • Understand and apply the appropriate visual risk assessments and the Health & Safety skills and knowledge required to carry out activities related to this course.
  • Your own negotiated aims and objectives.
  • Produce several different styles of arrangement e.g.  hand-tied items and/or decorative table arrangements.
  • Understand and apply the appropriate visual risk assessments and the Health & Safety skills and knowledge required to carry out activities related to this course.
  • Your own negotiated aims and objectives.

Progression: 

Other flower-arranging courses at KAE.  Please discuss with the tutor.  This course offers progression to the City & Guilds 7722 and 7822 professional level courses.

Course Syllabus:

Week 1:  Theory, health and safety etc for beginners.  Free choice arrangement for intermediates.

Week 2:  Arrangement using different types and colours of foliage plus twigs etc.

Week 3:  Two Japanese-style arrangements: one using oasis and one using a pin holder.

Week 4:  End of course project.
