Course Aim & Objective:
To appreciate London's geography, historical development, architectural/cultural heritage and traditions. To discover London by travelling from the known to unknown.
To achieve a greater understanding of London. To stimulate further research - reading, visits, walks in and around London.
This term (summer) we shall study 20th-21st Century Architecture up to the present day from Arts & Crafts to Post-postmodern (trying to concentrate on the less boring manifestations). The programme will be more or less in chronological order by date of building and architect.
You are recommended to bring an A-Z Guide to London with you to class and on visits. You may also find the Dorling Kindersley "Eyewitness Guide to London" helpful.
Assessment:
A more critical regard to TV/Newspaper coverage of London's development, cuttings brought to class, better informed discussions, homework and research.
