This course is for those interested in working as a Teaching Assistant in a school (Teaching Assistant is the generic term for Classroom Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Special Needs Assistant).
Learner & Entry Requirements:
Level 2 literacy or equivalent. The required attendance at college is half a day a week, afternoon workshops at 2.30 pm on alternate days and two sessions a week at a placement.

If you have a file, paper and pen, please bring them but do not purchase them specifically for the course until after the first class. KAE is unable to offer refunds for any materials, equipment or books if the course is subsequently closed.

Course Aim & Objective:
To prepare you to work effectively as a Teaching Assistant in Key Stages 1 and 2. To be able to plan and deliver ICT, literacy or numeracy activities for small groups, which supports the work of the class teacher.
Assessment:
Observation; building a portfolio of evidence by assessor.
Progression:
HLTA Status.
Course Syllabus:
Mandatory units are as follows:

- Help to keep children safe
- Contribute to positive relationships
- Provide effective support for your colleagues
There are also 2 optional units from a choice of 12 other units.
