The JavaScript course will give you the knowledge to use JavaScript (via the jQuery library) to create various interactive page elements. This means you’ll be able to create drop down menus, image slideshows and much more.

Course Content

On the course you’ll be covering the following:

  • An introduction to the basics of JavaScript programming.
  • Using jQuery to cut down on the amount of coding and dealing with cross-browser issues.
  • Using the various parts of the jQuery library to deal with page content (e.g. selecting page items and manipulating them). This is the basis of making your page elements interactive.

  • A brief introduction to AJAX (i.e. allowing JavaScript to talk directly to the web server without a page refresh)
  • Some projects to apply your skills, including drop down menus and an image fader (slideshow)

Entry Requirements

You will need a good working knowledge of HTML and CSS, such as that taught on our ITQ Web Design Skills or Web Design - Using Cascading Style Sheets courses. You might also find it useful to have some knowledge of PHP (the programming language we'll use in the AJAX section of the course); our Web Design - Database Driven Websites using PHP and MySQL course covers all of the basics.
