This is a series of Higher Education modules offers an innovative way to gain the higher technical and management skills needed for successful farm management. Developed conjunction with REEDnet (Rural Employer Engagement Development Network) and accredited through the Royal Agricultural College. This flexible, accessible learning can be undertaken at your own pace at a rate of between one and six modules per year, minimising the impact on your business and helping you put the theory into practice in 'real time'.

Qualification

This is a Level 4 qualification with each unit equivalent to 20 credits. Attaining 6 modules (120 credits) provides eligibility for a Certificate in Higher Education …

Course Content

Students can choose from the core General Farm Management modules and supplement this by selecting from a number of different subject specific pathways depending on business need.

General Farm Management

  • Farm Business Management
  • Business Planning
  • Leadership and farm staff management
  • Marketing, good agricultural and environmental practice
  • Grassland management

Sector Specific Modules

  • Dairy herd management
  • Sheep/beef/pig/poultry enterprise management
  • Arable management

Theoretical delivery by industry and academic experts in the field is supplemented by online materials for use in your workplace, allowing you to apply the information directly back to your workplace.

Each module is delivered over a four to six week period with a new module available every eight weeks. Specific modules titles and content can be discussed to provide a modular package that provides a greater and more appropriate degree of specialisation.

Entry Requirements

This course is aimed at those who have achieved an Extended Diploma in Agriculture (or similar - National Diploma in Agriculture) and are now working in the agricultural industry and aiming to take on more responsibility or need to develop higher level skills in post. Anyone who has obtained a first degree and wish to study sector specific topics will also benefit from undertaking this programme.
