Certificate in Administrative ManagementThe aim of the Certificate
is to provide an in depth introduction to the field of
Administrative Management and serve as a precursor to moving on the

AssessmentThere are two parts to the assessment for this qualification:
1. Creation of a reflective learning diary
related to the learning outcomes of each
unit that records evidence of skills for employment as well as
academic
achievements
2. Project Report of between 3000 and 3500 which
must evidence application of
learning from the programme syllabus and achievement of the overall

Syllabus aim of Diploma in Administrative
Management The aim of the Level 4 Diploma in Administrative
Management is to develop an
appreciation of the people-management functions within the
organisation. This
qualification provides a general introduction to the relevance of
the systems
approach as well as asking candidates to consider administration in
its wider
organisational context. Candidates are introduced to some of the
key concerns
faced by administrative managers within a rapidly changing
environment. It also
develops candidate’s appreciation of the need to manage
information.
Assessment1. Units 1-4
are individually assessed by a three hour unseen written paper
comprising two sections A and B.
a. Section A will comprise eight compulsory short answer questions
designed
to test candidates’ knowledge and understanding of concepts and
terminology.
b. Section B will comprise a choice of three
questions from five designed to
assess the candidate’s appreciation of how the systems approach
informs
elements of administrative practice. A question will be set from
each of the
four areas of the Learning Syllabus.
2. Unit 5 is assessed by either a Case Study or a Project Report
a. Case Study examination answering questions
based on a realistic scenario
which is provided for study in advance.
b. Project Report, a work based project which is
submitted for independent
marking to complete this qualification.

Course Duration12 months of full time study at the International College of Professional Studies.
ExaminationsFrom January 2010 the pass-mark for each unit will be 40%. The thresholds for Credit and Distinctions is 60% and 70% respectively.
Examination timetables will be supplied to students showing the registration deadlines and actual examination dates.
Exams are held in March, June, September and
December. Candidates must be fully paid up members of the Institute
of Administrative Management.
Exemptions The Institute will also consider
applications from educational institutions or
examining bodies whose courses and assessment methods might also
satisfy the
Institute's criteria for exemption. Once such an exemption has been
approved by
the Institute, students successfully completing the qualification
may apply or
exemptions individually.
The Institute will also consider applications
for exemption from individuals who
hold other qualifications provided they are from a reputable
awarding body where
both the level and content of its syllabus matches those of the
Institute's
qualifications.
In line with current best practice the Institute of Administrative Management will only permit the maximum number of exemptions shown in the table below:
Qualification Exemptions allowed:
Certificate in Administrative Management - 1
Diploma in Administrative Management - 2
Exemptions must be granted in writing, before entering for
examinations. Exemptions cannot be granted against units that the
applicant has previously failed.
Candidates who have been granted exemptions
cannot obtain overall distinction
for any qualification as the rules regarding overall distinction
state that the
candidate must achieve all modules by examination or other
assessment
appropriate to the modules, administered by the Institute of
Administrative Management.
Entry RequirementsThe International College of Professional Studies require any one of the following will serve as the entry qualifications:
Certificate Level Entry:
- English at IELTS grade 4.5 minimum and
- One GCE A level or five GCSEs and
- IAM Introductory Award or
- Other qualifications equivalent to 3 above or
- Relevant work experience
Direct Diploma Level Entry:
- English at IELTS grade 4.5 minimum and
- One GCE A level or five GCSEs and
- IAM Certificate
- Other qualifications equivalent to 3 above or
- 2years’ relevant experience
The minimum age for registration for this programme is 18.
Continuing EducationThe Diploma in Administrative Management will entitle holders to continue to the Advanced Diploma in Administrative Management
University ProgressionHolders of the Diploma in Administrative Management and the Advanced Diploma in Administrative Management are eligible for credit towards or direct entry onto several degree programmes at other universities.
Teesside Business School, University of Teesside
recognises the Diploma in Administrative Management for direct
entry into their BA (Hons) Business Management and BA (Hons)
International Business Management degree programmes.

Study MethodsThe Institute of Administrative Management has provided the International College of Professional Studies with a detailed syllabus and reading list for each subject area. Each subject syllabus clearly defines the areas that you will be required to cover for each subject and your examination questions will be based on the areas and topics detailed for each subject. It is important to ensure that you obtain a copy of each subject syllabus from this college.
Each subject syllabus is normally linked to one main textbook and the examiners base their questions on the contents of the nominated text.
The subject syllabuses also give details of 'Alternative Texts' and texts recommended for further reading. Where possible you should read one or more of the 'Alternative Texts' in order to broaden your knowledge of the subject area.
