Creative and Imaginative writing for beginners

Leisure Courses give you a chance to explore new skills, attitudes and appreciations. We offer a variety of leisure courses enabling you to explore your particular interest and build on existing skills in a fun learning environment.

Summary

This course is designed to explore the creative process by introducing you to a range of reading and writing strategies alongside workshops which will help you to develop your own writing practise. You will work within a supportive group and look in detail at: point of view, character, structure, dialogue, poetry and use of imagery/setting. This course is ideal for those who have always wanted to write, but have never had the courage, knowledge, or skills to do so.

What will I be doing on the course?

During the weekly sessions, you will engage in a number of different activities including guided writing exercises, workshops on particular topics, close analysis of short texts, and discussions around different examples of writing. Most weeks, the activities will be focused around a text introduced in the previous week, on which an assignment will have been set.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through short assignments which will be set each week. By the end of the course you will have a portfolio of work, and your own writing to take home.

What will I need?

A pen, an open mind, and certainly the WANT to write.
