Overview
SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) is a signalling protocol used for locating remote users and establishing interactive communications.
It is analogous to setting up a call on the telephone network, with two critical improvements:

Overview
SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) is a signalling protocol used for locating remote users and establishing interactive communications.
It is analogous to setting up a call on the telephone network, with two critical improvements:
- It is internet-native, and therefore interoperates well with other protocols;
- It separates session establishment and session description.
SIP, however, is not limited to establishing voice calls; it is the glue for a new set of applications, beyond just the obvious 'IP telephony' to include multimedia, web services, mobility, IM and presence, e-commerce, and many others.
The course gives an overview of the SIP protocol. Starting with the elements of a SIP network, the protocol messages and addressing, the attendee will be led through the set-up of a basic SIP call. Next, the course focuses on how different features, such as call forwarding, conference calling, etc. are implemented in SIP and it explains how security and QoS fit within the SIP story. The half-day course is ended with a SIP demo.
