You'll learn about biological science, as well as developing a highly specialised knowledge in forensic science, particularly forensic biology. You'll learn how to collect traces of evidence from crime scenes, analyse samples including hair and fibres, body fluids, document and drugs in the laboratory. You'll also learn the legal framework within which forensic science works and how to present both written and verbal evidence in court. As well as providing you with a solid grounding in all aspects of forensic biology, this degree will concentrate on the biological principles that underpin past, present and future forensic techniques. What's involved The course is studied full-time over four years. You will learn by a variety of teaching methods including lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions, field trips, and through independent study. There may also be some opportunities to study abroad. Year 1 Life on Earth, Introductory Physiology, Molecules and Cells, two practical modules and either Plant Science or Concepts in Forensic Biology Year 2 Microbiology, Biochemistry, Physiology and the Environment, Search and Recovery, and a practical module. Plus one optional module from Biology and Disease, Animal Biology, Microbes and Man, or Systems Therapeutics Year 3 Scientific Communication - Dissertation and Statistics, Molecular Genetics, Law for Forensic Scientists, Forensic Analysis, Clinical Biochemistry and Aspects of Forensic Biology Year 4 Forensic Genetics and DNA Profiling Applications, Forensic Toxicology, Case File Interpretation and Court Room Evidence, plus an honours project
