You'll get the opportunity to explore in depth the areas of software engineering which interest you most by offering a number of module choices as well as the chance to specialise in state-of-the-art research topics such as evolutionary and parallel computing. You'll gain valuable skills in project management and team working through a group based project and independent research skills that will develop your existing knowledge and understanding to produce a substantial, self-directed piece of individual work. You'll develop a good understanding of the principles of modern software engineering plus current research and future trends in software engineering. Graduates can expect to find employment in a variety of jobs and companies ranging from independent software houses to graduate trainee courses in large multinational companies. What's involved This is a part-time course studied over two years. Year 1 Advanced Software Development, Programming for the Web, plus two optional modules from Management of Software Projects, e-Security, Emergent Computing for Optimisation or Parallel Applications Programming. Year 2 Advanced Application Programming, Group Project, plus two optional modules from Management of Software Projects, e-Security, Emergent Computing for Optimisation or Parallel Applications Programming. MSc Dissertation - completion will qualify you for a Masters Degree.

Requirements at a glanceEntry to the courseYou will need to have an honours degree, at least two thirds of which was software engineering based, or a lesser qualification with relevant work experience. You should also be competent in object oriented design and a programming language such as C++ or Java.
