Summary:

Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes designed around the needs of employers, which lead to nationally recognised qualifications. This Apprenticeship framework has been especially designed for care workers in a full range of roles within Health Services.

To achieve the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship learners must achieve 58 credits.

To do this they must achieved:Generic Pathways

  • 24 credits from the mandatory units in Group A
  • A minimum of 2 credits and a maximum of 7 credits from optional Group B
  • At least 15 credits from the optional units in Group

Dementia Pathways

  • At least 15 credits from the optional units in Group C but one of the following must be completed: DEM 204, 209, 210 or 211.
  • Adults with Learning Disabilities Pathways

24 credits from the mandatory units in Group A

  • A minimum of 2 credits and a maximum of 7 credits from the optional units in Group B but must complete: LD 201 – Understanding the context of supporting and individuals with learning disabilities
  • At least 15 credits from the optional units in Group C but one of the following must be completed: LD 202. 203

Mandatory Units:

  • Introduction to communication in H&SC or CYP settings
  • Introduction to personal development in H&SC or CYP settings
  • Introduction to equality and inclusion H&SC or CYP settings
  • Introduction to duty of care in H&SC or CYP settings
  • Principles of safeguarding and protection in H&SC
  • The role of the H&SC worker
  • Implement person centred approaches in H&SC
  • Contribute to health and safety in H&SC settings
  • Handle information in H&SC
  • City & Guilds Level 1 Award in Functional Skills English (QCF)
  • City & Guilds Level 1 Award in Functional Skills Mathematics (QCF)

  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
Course Length: Approximately 18 months Entry Requirements:

Apprentices who took their GCSE’s more than five years ago and did not gain a C grade or above will need to take a literacy and numeracy test. The Learner will also need to be working in a supervisory position.

Core Skills:

This qualification has been especially designed for care workers in a full range of roles within Health Services and develops the skills needed to be an effective employee within a health and social care environment. This course is recommended for employees working within health and social care; who want to gain a qualification through a flexible combination of workshops and assessments in the workplace.

Assessment:

Assessment will be carried out in the workplace by an occupationally competent assessor. You will present your assessor with evidence to demonstrate competency using a variety of evidence gathering methods.

Career Progression:

Career or academic progression may include continuation, development or promotion at work or within the health sector, progression onto a Foundation Degree or higher education.

Training on the Apprenticeships programme is currently funded for apprentices aged 16 - 18 years at the time of enrolment. An employer contribution is required for those aged either 19+ or who have a level 4 or higher qualification.
