Full Time

The course is a mixture of theory and practical workshop sessions. Theory is delivered and assessed through assignments, tasks and externally set examinations. Paying clients will offer a realistic working environment in which to put theory knowledge into practice and the practical elements of the course will be assessed through observation and oral questioning. Through this learners will build up a portfolio of evidence of the work that they have completed. The Level 2 Diploma in Women's Hairdressing consists of the following units:



Follow health and safety practicthe salon, give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation, cut men's hair using basic techniques, change hair colour, style and finish hair,


shampoo and condition hair and scalp, client consultation for hair services, display stock to promote sales in a salon, promote products and services to clients in a salon, reception duties, perm and neutralise .



Students will also have the opportunity to achieve the Level 2 Certificate in Barbering.



All students will undertake Level 2 Essential Skills Wales in Communication, I.T. and Numeracy, which enhances the Welsh Baccalaureate at Intermediate level.



How you will gain the qualification

The course work is by continuous assessment. Assessment is by practical observation, oral questioning, written work and externally set examinations. There is an opportunity for students to work to individual programmes.


What qualifications you need


It is recommended that candidates will have achieved a Level 1 Qualification in Hairdressing or equivalent, Level 1 Essential Skills in Communication, Numeracy and Information Communication Technology. Candidates will be required to attend an interview and a skills assessment prior to acceptance.




In addition learners must have achieved 4 GCSEs at D or equivalent.


Where to next

The Level 2 Diploma in Women's Hairdressing provides learners with the necessary knowledge and skills to work as a hairdresser. This qualification also provides suitable progression opportunities to Level 3 studies. These include the Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing. Progression opportunities also exist in the form of specialist vocationally related qualifications at Levels 2 and Level 3.
