GCE AS Level English Literature
The course will develop your knowledge and interest in English
Literature from GCSE.
You will develop a knowledge and understanding of cultural,
historical and other influences on texts. On completion of the
course, you will be able to explain why texts are read and
interpreted in a variety of ways by many different people.
Each of these modules will hopefully deepen your passion for English Literature and encourage you to extend your reading of the selected texts, to prepare you for university.
How you will gain the qualification
The AS course consists of one 2 hour exam in May and 2 pieces of
independent coursework totalling 3,000 words on 3 texts of
choice.

What qualifications you need
A minimum of 6 full course GCSEs grade C or above, one of which
must be English Language is required.
Entry to A2 is conditional on achieving grade A*-E at AS level.
Where to next
Progression from AS to A2 will be available on achieving a
minimum score at A/S.
A Level English Literature is a diverse subject and may lead to
a number of possible degree courses. On completion of A Level,
university progression can be made to English Literature, English
Language, History, Law, Sociology or Psychology.
