If you are a highly motivated individual taking A levels for the first time, retaking A Levels or wishing to convert an overseas qualification for university entry, then this course is the perfect option for you. Who is this course for? If you are a highly motivated individual taking A levels for the first time, retaking A Levels or wishing to convert an overseas qualification for university entry, then this course is the perfect option for you. Students wishing to improve their AS Level grade in Biology and mature students with a good academic background needing to study AS Biology in 1 year are also encouraged to join this course. What qualifications or experience do I need ? We welcome students with a genuine interest in the subject and good study skills, students with: 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above including English, Maths, and Additional Science / Double Science (or Biology). What will I study ? This AS Level consists of 2 examined units: Unit 1 - Lifestyle, Transport, Genes and Health Unit 2 - Development, Plants and the Evironment Plus one coursework unit How will I be assessed ? You will be assessed via external examinations of units 1 and 2 in May/June and one piece of coursework. What qualifications could I achieve ? On successful completion of this course, you will achieve an AS in Biology. What can the course lead to ? On completion of this course you can continue on to A2, a full A Level. The successful completion of an A Level, coupled with other subjects, will help you progress onto Higher Education and advance in a range of degree programmes including medicine and pharmacy. How do I join the course ? Please complete an enrolment form when you come to part-time enrolment. Will I need an interview ? Yes Are there any extra costs for equipment/materials ? Students will need: * Scientific calculator (approx �8) * Essential textbooks (approx �25) Further Information This is a very intensive course that will require 4-6 hours of private study (outside the class) per week. Students with no background in Biology A Level, but with very good study skills can achieve good grades.
