Description

This is a practical upholstery class where you can work on your own furniture either simple or more complex e.g. fireside chair, winged chair or armchair with springs and buttoned back.

You will learn how to restore it in the style of your choice under the guidance of our tutor who will help you to acquire traditional manual restoration techniques. We are unable to store your furniture between classes and suggest you work on smaller items of furniture like chairs or stools. You are advised not to purchase any materials or equipment for this course until you have received confirmation from the college that there are enough students enrolled for the course to definitely run.

Techniques covered include: stripping to the frame, webbing, stuffing and applying hessian stitching or tying springs, bridle ties, stitching edges, stitching through seat, applying calico pad and applying top cover.



This is a practical workshop-based course with group and individual demonstrations of a variety of techniques.

You will gain upholstery skills and the confidence to work independently.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

You may wish to progress on to a Certificate in Furniture Production or a Foundation Degree in Furniture Design.
