Core units
- The online world provides an introduction to how the internet/web
works
- Technology systems introduces how systems work, as well as
covering programming concepts
- A digital portfolio (a website) provides learners with an
opportunity to showcase work developed throughout the course to
prospective educational institutions and employers
Units 1 and 2, will be assessed online through a mixture of
multiple choice and open ended questions.

Please note that the specific units may be subject to change but we
want to give you the most exiting year of learning we can provide.
The course covers functional skills and work skills too. Individual
learning targets are set every six weeks and you receive regular
feedback on your progress in meeting these targets.
Formal assessment is through assignment briefs, two online exams,
projects, presentations and observations on practical assessments,
which are set at regular intervals throughout the course.
Additional qualifications in areas such as English and maths are
assessed by an external exam.
The qualifications awarded are the Extended Certificate in Information and Creative Technology, which is equivalent to three GCSEs, and additional skills qualifications in English and maths.
Applicants for a level 2 programme will normally have:
- at least four GCSEs at grade D or above including English and
maths
Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an
internal assessment. All students will have their literacy and
numeracy needs supported within the programme.
Completion of this level 2 programme can lead to the following
level 3 courses, also offered at the college:
- Media
- Games development
- IT (technician or computing pathways)
You could also apply for apprenticeships or work in junior IT
support positions.
You will have a thirst for learning and be prepared to work outside your guided lessons. As part of the course you are expected to keep yourself up to date with the latest developments in the subject area.
