Who is the course for?
This course is a natural progression from Using ICT Entry 3. Alternatively if you have experience of
using MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and internet and email, this Level 1 course provides a
nationally recognised qualification which fits the needs of employers.

Minimum of Entry 3 English

What will I study?
A total of 9 credits must be achieved to gain the full qualification from the following units: Using

What will I study?

How is the course taught?
A range of practical tasks will be set to develop knowledge, skills and understanding. Candidates
will be expected to produce evidence demonstrating that assessment objectives for each unit have
been met.
How will I be assessed?
The units will be locally assessed and externally moderated. Candidates will be required to meet all
the assessment objectives as stated in the unit specifications. Assessment activities will take the
form of practical activities that are locally devised or OCR set.
By the end of the course what vocational skills will I obtain?
Depending on options chosen: Use email software tools and techniques to compose and send
messages; Use browser tools to search for information from the internet; use appropriate methods
to minimise security risks to IT systems and data; Input and combine texts and other information
within presentation slides; Use appropriate formulas and tools to summarise and display
spreadsheet information and Structure information within word processing document.
What materials do I need for the course?
You need a pen; A4 sized ruled sheets of paper and a memory stick. As you will be given regular
homework it is expected that you have access to a personal computer that is Internet enabled.

- aged 16-18 years old on an accredited course
- on Job Seeker's Allowance or on Employment Support Allowance (Work-Related Activity Group)
- unemployed and in receipt of a means tested benefit (or are dependent of someone who is unemployed and in receipt of a means tested benefit) and sign a Declaration of Intention to enter employment
- aged 19-23 studying for a first full Level 2 qualification and do not already have a full Level 2 qualification or equivalent
- aged 19-24 studying for a first full Level 3 qualification and you do not already have a full Level 3 qualification or equivalent
- studying GCSE English or maths and do not already have a grade C or above
- studying an accredited English or maths course
- studying an entry or Level 1 accredited course and are aged 19-23 and have prior attainment below full Level 2. (This does not apply to ESOL courses)
- taking part in a Family Learning activity

Exam fees are non-refundable and payable at enrolment. In some cases exam fees are to be confirmed.
