What is the course about?You will be introduced to the mouse, the keyboard and the
touchscreen environment (where applicable), and how to use the
computer.
You will be shown how to use the Windows 8 Start Screen and how to
move around the screen with confidence.
You will use the Charms menu and the snap functions
You will surf the Internet using Internet Explorer version 10, test
some search engines and look at specific sites of interest
including local area information, shopping and research.
You will use some of the software that comes with Windows 8, for
example the word processor.

Who is the course for?
This is an Entry-level course specifically for people who have
not used a computer before or who have very limited experience of
using computers with Windows 8 on.
What is your approach?
There will be demonstrations and explanations, followed by time
for you to practise all the new techniques you are being shown.
You will have an opportunity to maintain an Individual Learning
Plan and your tutor will discuss your progress and achievement with
you throughout the course.
What can I do next?
You may wish to consider the Windows 8 – Beyond the Basics
course. This course is designed to be a follow on course to the
Windows 8 Learn to love your computer/laptop and aims to increase
your knowledge and confidence when using Windows 8.

For this course the computers will be using Windows 8 operating
system.
If it is important for you to be using a particular version of
software on your computer you must check with the centre at the
time of booking your course, that the version you wish to learn is
used on the course you are joining.

You will need to bring a pen, notepad and your laptop.
Please bring your Laptop to all sessions with a fully charged
battery.
