You will need to attend one of the induction days prior to commencing your first module; these are running in Lancaster on 18 or 19 September 2013 (you only need to attend one date), 08 January 2014 and 26 March 2014 and in Carlisle on 20 September 2013, 07 January 2014 and 25 March 2014. If you have studied at the University of Cumbria in the past two years the requirement to attend the induction day may be waived.

Why study with us?The Graduate Diploma (GDip) Nursing Practice (120 credits) is for nurses who hold a degree already but who do not want to move on to postgraduate level study at this time. The programme features a variety of bespoke module options which are tailored to individual learners personal and professional development needs.
What can this course lead to?Having completed this Graduate Diploma programme, you could consider moving on to study a Masters degree. There are several options you can consider, depending on your professional background:
- MSc/PgC Advanced Practice in Health and Social Care
- MSc Specialist Community Public Health Nursing Practice
- MSc Practice Development
Alternatively, you might want to consider consolidating your degree level study by undertaking a University Advanced Diploma Practice Development (60 credits at level 6) or taking a PgC Practice Development award (60 credits at level 7). These are available in a range of practice-based subjects. We also have a wide range of stand alone modules at all levels.

Credit and UCAS requirements Credit: 120 credits Selection criteriaYou must be a qualified nurse and hold active registration with the NMC Nursing Register, or equivalent. You will need access to an appropriate practice setting if a module with an attached QPU is studied or a work based learning module. Applications will be accompanied by one professional reference.

Course summaryThe Graduate Diploma: Nursing Practice is a course for qualified nurses who already hold a degree and wish to undertake further study in Nursing. This is also available as a full-time option, for further information please contact Michelle Garner (Michelle.Garner@cumbria.ac.uk).
The GDip Nursing Practice programme requires you to undertake a single, 20 credit core module: Evidence Based Practice. You will have the opportunity to select remaining modules from the Practice Development Framework (see list below) or, any level 6 module from within the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing which has been designated as “stand alone”, to a total of 120 credits, providing the selected modules are relevant to the your programme of study and area of practice. Optional modules must be agreed by the personal tutor.
