This course has two interrelated objectives. It helps you to develop an awareness of research and research culture and it develops your competence in using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to carry out basic procedures essential to a masters degree programme, building your awareness of how ICT can facilitate the researcher.

You will master the various skills necessary to produce the assignments. In ICT you will learn how to carry out various types of advanced on-line searches; how to lay out a bibliography and use word-processing skills to produce masters level material. This course has two interrelated objectives. You will master the various skills necessary to produce the assignments. In ICT you will learn how to carry out various types of advanced on-line searches; how to lay out a bibliography and use word-processing skills to produce masters level material. On the research awareness side, you will be introduced to the vocabulary and concepts of educational research, and explore the main differences between quantitative and qualitative approaches, with their attendant methodologies. You will also have the opportunity to discuss the involved issues around research ethics. By the end of the course you will have the confidence and skills to be able to criticise, analyse and evaluate research articles.

On successful completion of this course you will be awarded a certificate of credit for 20 credits at Level HE7. In addition, you may use these credits towards one of the Masters in Education degrees offered by the University of Bolton.
