This 1 day course has been designed to ensure that operatives can
carry out daily tasks in lighting and guarding systems take adequate measures to minimise any inconvenience to the general public during the course of street works maintain a safe environment for the general public, pedestrians and motor vehicles and persons engaged on the streetworks

The course includes:
- Fault finding on roadworks layouts
- The legal requirements, risk assessments ans the Code of Practice
- Planning a signing, lighting and guarding project
- Basic principles of signing, lighting and guarding
- Layouts of sites including selection of signs and equipment and temporary footways
- Cycle lanes, cycle track and cycle routes
- Methods of traffic control and testing of traffic signals
- Removals of signs and opening of footways and carriageways
- New Roads and Street Works Act 1991
- Practical use of equipment including portable traffic lights
- New signs
- Speed control
- Procedures for works near tramways and railways
Benefits of attending
At the end of the course delegates will be able to:
Produce a plan of intended site showing position of signs, guarding & traffic signals.
Produce a list of equipment for intended site.
Demonstrate sequence of setting out the advance signing, safety zones & pedestrian walkways.
Demonstrate positioning, testing, adjusting, commissioning & decommissioning of temporary traffic signals.
Answer a range of questions to demonstrate knowledge of subject.
Conduct activities safely wearing appropriate safety wear.
Additional Training Information
The course involves some practical work and participants are requested to bring their own overalls, waterproof jacket and safety boots. Other safety equipment will be provided as required.
