This course is designed for supervisors who are managing operatives working with the signing, lighting and guarding of road works.

Summary of course content/overview

This one day course will provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to monitor the signing, lighting and guarding of street works and road works in line with the 2002 Code of Practice.

The course includes:

• Legal requirements and on-site risk assessments
• Planning a signing, lighting and guarding project
• Types of Works
• Basic principles of signing and guarding
• Cycle routes
• Works on footpaths
• New signs
• Methods of traffic controls
• Speed control
• Testing and operating portable traffic signals
• Procedures for works near trams and railways

At the end of the course delegates will be able to plan and supervise a signing, lighting and guarding project according to the Code of Practice to ensure the works are carried out safely for the operatives and general public.

Additional Training Information

The course involves some practical work and participants are requested to bring their own overalls, waterproof jacket and safety boots. Other safety equipment will be provided as required.
