Description
Unit 1 covers:
- Germ theory of disease, infectious diseases and global public health issues
- Medicines, ethical issues and reproductive choices
- Lifestyle, transport choices and fuel issues
- The planet earth in the context of the solar system and the universe
- The human race in the context of evolution and society
Unit 2 covers:
- A critical account of scientific reading
- The study of a topical scientific issue
A variety of teaching methods will be used including formal lessons, group work, discussion and practical work. Homework will be set regularly.
End Qualification:
AS Level Science in Society

5 GCSEs at grade C or above including maths.

Assessment:
Unit 1 is assessed through a 2 hour written paper at the end of
the year and forms 60% of the final award.
Unit 2 is assessed internally and comprises 40% of the final
award.
Progression from this course:
Students from this course could progress to higher education.

Course Costs:
All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials/resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees).
