This course is for people who work as educators in their current job, including nurses and midwives, allied health professionals, social workers, doctors, lecturers in higher, further and community education, librarians and police trainers. It is a dynamic, interactive and work-related course which has been designed in response to the continuing professional development needs of professionals with an educational role. interactive and work-related course which has been designed in

The course will entitle you to apply to the Nursing and Midwifery
Council (nurses and midwives) for teacher status and and the Higher
Education Academy for fellowship status. It will also develop your
understanding and skills of facilitation and teaching. You will
become confident in developing courses and in working with
technology to enhance learning. The course will provide you with a
solid footing to maintain your principles of education in what can
often be a challenging environment.
EXIT AWARDS: PgCert (60 credits)
Delivery: At QMU and some online learning
Single Modules: Register as an associate student to study some
single modules in areas of interest
Duration: PgCert - Part-time: 1 - 2 years (studying 1 or 2
module(s) per semester respectively)
Start date: September
Application deadline: The deadline for all overseas applicants who
require a visa to study in the UK should apply no later than the
30th June 2013.
Teaching, learning and assessment: You will learn through group
discussions (face-to-face and online), teaching practice, reading,
challenge and debate, collaborative case analysis, independent
study, presentations and research. Emphasis is placed on building
on and developing your own personal and professional experience.
Assessments may include personal reflective critiques,
e-portfolios, presentations, essays, curriculum documents and
literature reviews.
Teaching hours and attendance: Some modules are studied on campus
and require you to attend classes. Most of the modules are
available through the distance learning route, and use technology
to connect you virtually to the classroom.
Links with industry/professional bodies: This PgCert is accredited
by the NMC for Teacher status (nurses and midwives only). The
Education in Action 1 & 2 modules are accredited by the Higher
Education Academy (HEA) for Associate and Full Fellowship
respectively. Recognition by other professional bodies may allow
you to record a teaching qualification with your profession.
