Students should also have experience with the following skills, which are prerequisites for AU62: The principles of good system management; TCP/IP Communications Concepts and Tools as covered in AU07; LVM Concepts and Configuration as covered in AU14, AU16, AU20

Course Description:

This course is designed to teach HACMP professionals the techniques used to implement HACMP in a virtualized environment and to plan for, configure and manage HACMP/XD using Geographic Logical Volume Manager (GLVM) as the data replication method. (GLVM) as the data replication method.

This course is desgined for HACMP system administrators and support personnel who will be responsible for the implementation and maintenance of : HACMP clusters in a virtualized environment on IBM System p systems running AIX and/or HACMP/XD clusters using GLVM as the data replication method. The course is aimed at the following audience: Students who want to learn about integrating HACMP v5 in an environment where the HACMP nodes are clients to a Virtual I/O (VIO) server; Students who wish to learn about how to implement GLVM as a data replication method; Students who wish to learn about how to plan for, implement and manage HACMP/XD in a virtualized environment

On completion of this course, students should be able to: Review HACMP base concepts:

  • Explain a virtualized System p5 environment that is designed to be used in an HACMP and HACMP/XD configuration, including the failure/recovery of the virtualized components outside of the control of HACMP;
  • Provide an understanding of the data replication over a distance options and the planning considerations;
  • Explain the HACMP/XD functions; Cover the implementation process involved in GLVM and Metro-Mirror;
  • Provide the HACMP/XD integration details for GLVM and Metro-Mirror; Discuss the on-going maintenance, e.g. fallover and recovery, LUN replacement, and LUN addition of an HACMP/XD cluster

This course includes the following modules:

HACMP System Administration III

  • The objectives of this class are to implement HACMP in an environment where the HACMP nodes are client LPARs to a VIO server, ensuring no single points of failure are introduced by building the necessary redundancy into the virtualized environment. The configuration will be enhanced to assume that the HACMP nodes (which will be in different managed systems) are to be placed in separate sites. GLVM will be implemented to replicate the application data between the sites and then HACMP/XD will be implemented to manage the fallover/fallback of the application from site-to-site. Note: This course covers the use of the Metro Mirror data replication method available in the IBM TotalStorage DS8000, DS6000 and SAN Volume Controller systems and its integration with HACMP/XD in lecture format only. It does not provide hands-on lab experience using Metro Mirror. In addition, the systems used in the hands-on lab environment are not geographically dispersed.
