In this course, pSeries customers who are experienced with the configuration and management of LPARs on POWER4-based systems will acquire the skills needed to be effective LPAR administrators on Sserver p5 systems. Students will learn the differences when configuring and managing LPARs on Sserver p5 systems, and when configuring and maintaining the Hardware Management Console (HMC).

servers such as:
- Logical partitioning (LPAR), dynamic partitioning, virtual
devices, virtual processors, shared processors
- Describe new partitioning concepts available on the Sserver p5
systems such as:
- Virtual I/O, Virtual Ethernet, and shared processor options
- Describe the new HMC configuration options for Sserver p5 systems
including:
- User task roles, network options, HMC firewall configuration,
LPAR scheduled operations, connection options to managed system,
and WebSM client installation differences
- Use the Advanced System Management Interface (ASMI) to perform
service processor configuration tasks
- Use the VIO Server software to host a SCSI device and a Shared
Ethernet Adapter
- Compare the rules and options associated with allocating
resources on both POWER4 and Sserver p5 LPAR systems
- Compare LPAR configuration and management options on both POWER4
and Sserver p5 LPAR systems
- Compare location code format differences on both POWER4 and
Sserver p5 LPAR systems
- Compare managed system power management options and new system
states on both POWER4 and Sserver p5 LPAR systems
- Configure Partition Load Manager to perform dynamic LPAR
operations
- Compare service tools features and configuration on both POWER4
and Sserver p5 LPAR systems
