This is one of the few wildlife photography short courses offered by a university in the country. And with a wide range of habitats surrounding our city-centre campus there will be plenty of photo opportunities.

The course is aimed at beginners who are enthusiastic about photography and the outdoors, who enjoy creating exciting images and aren’t afraid to get up close to nature and wildlife. You will learn a range of natural history photography techniques and how to master that perfect shot. Whether you want to build a portfolio, are considering a future college course or considering a career in wildlife photography this is the perfect place to begin.

The course will be a mixture of short theory lessons on different natural history subjects as well as practical photography walks to green spaces close to our studios. Studio set-ups with live small creatures will also be provided. There will be projects and group critique, and invited guest lecturers established in the wildlife photography industry who will come along to give talks. You will be photographing the smallest of beetles and insects as well as action shots of birds and mammals. There will plenty of mistakes and missed opportunities, but all part of what will be a fun and informative experience.

When you leave the course you will have a unique understanding of wildlife photography and its demands as well as rewards.
