Our MA Textile Design Innovation by Registered Project can be adapted to your individual studying needs. You’ll propose your own course of study within the field of Textile Design, either through the realisation of a project, through researching and writing a thesis, or a combination of these approaches. Why choose this course?

For the ultimate in flexibility, our MA Registered Project route offers study that can be adapted to your individual needs. You'll provide your own course of study, comprising a project, the research and writing of a thesis, or a combination of practical and research approaches.

This course especially suits students with a particular project in mind; if your proposal can be matched to our resources and meets the standards for a Masters degree, the project or thesis can be registered with us for study.

The flexibility of this approach is suitable for students who want to combine study with working commitments, as tutorial times can be arranged around individual needs.

This mode of learning is especially suitable for UK or EU students who have graduated from a traditional western undergraduate Art and Design course, or may wish to study part-time.

Study routes

You can study this course:

  • full-time over one year as MA Textile Design Innovation
  • part-time over two years by Registered Project.
Scholarships

The School of Art & Design is offering a number of scholarships for full-time Masters study. To find out more visit our Postgraduate Scholarships webpage.

Course content

Actual course content is specified by your individual study proposal.

Study is wrapped into three modules, which follows the same pattern as all our Masters courses. Contact learning time is arranged through negotiated supervisory sessions.

Students following the Registered Project (RP) mode are welcome to attend the generic set lecture programme for the taught Masters courses, although this is not a specific requirement of the RP structure.

How will I be assessed?

All students undertake review and evaluation at critical stages throughout the course in support of their academic development, and projects are individually supervised throughout, with ongoing feedback occurring through the supervisory process.

Assessment is by coursework and a presentation at the end of each stage. The individual nature of the work allows for diversity of the material produced for assessment. All students take part in the School of Art & Design's public exposition of their work, the MA Exposition , towards the end of the course.

How will I learn?

Students are assigned a specialist personal supervisor who will support them through the duration of the course.

You will agree and develop a learning and personal development plan with your supervisor, based around your specific area of focus and project ideas.

Throughout the course you are required to develop and maintain a reflective journal. This is a record of your project’s journey, to include critical analysis, research, evaluation of thoughts and activities, as well as professional theory and practice in relation to your subject choice.

Students undertaking MA study by RP may also benefit from the MA community’s collaborative learning programme, including
cross-community projects, guest lectures and workshops run by visiting professionals from many areas of the creative industries
